Frankie Knuckles

Yes, Todd Terry will be the house god - or was - but Frankie Knuckles is still the godfather with whom to settle accounts. Because many consider him the creator of house.

He started playing in New York in the early 1970s when he was still a teenager, years before the boom in club culture. Born in the Bronx in 1955, Kunckles listened to a lot of jazz when he was young thanks to his sister's record collection. He studied commercial art and design before accepting his first work as a DJ in 1971.Seven years later he met his childhood friend Larry Levan and they both started playing at the New York club The Gallery. Thanks to his relationship with Levan, Knuckles was able to develop like dj in the best clubs of New York. Levan was offered to work as a DJ in Chicago but he did not accept the offer, suggesting his friend Knuckles to the position.

That's how Knuckles moved to Chicago in 1977 and started playing at the Warehouse. In 1983 Knuckles opened its own Power Plant club, to which many Chicago producers like Marshall Jefferson, Larry Heard or Adonis. After more than 15 years as a DJ, Knuckles also began recording, debuting with the singles "Your Love", Baby Wants to Ride, You Got the Love and Angel on the label Trax Records. Just as the Chicago sound was beginning to become famous in the mid-1980s, Knuckles returned to New York and formed Def Mix Productions together with David Morales. They began working on the production of house remixes for big pop stars such as Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Chaka Kahn, Inner City and En Vogue.Until 1991 he had no offers from a large company to produce his own music, and it was Virgin who gave him the opportunity by publishing his debut album Beyond The Mix.

After so many years of mili, Knuckles continued to produce singles without any hint of creative crisis, as well as remixes, and even a second album Welcome to the Real World that was published in 1995. He played quite a lot in recent times in Spain especially in Deep (Madrid ) although he is also reminded of some other brilliant set in La Terrrazza Barcelona. In the year 2000 he publishes his contribution to the catalog of the collection Choice - A Collection Of Classics with an impeccable selection in which they enter Tempest Trio, George Duke, Billy Ocean or Soul II Soul, among others.
